Frequently asked Questions

One
What is involved in Havening?
As your Certified Havening Practitioner, I will select the most suitable Havening technique based on your individual needs to ensure the best possible outcome for you. One common method we use is called "event havening" which consists of four steps:
1. Bring the Event to Mind – You’ll briefly recall the event you want to work on. We can do this without focusing on the details, as the key is simply bringing it to your mind for a short moment.
2. Rate Your Distress – I’ll ask you to rate the level of distress you feel when thinking about the event, using a scale from 0 to 10 (0 = calm, no distress; 10 = extreme distress). This helps me understand how deeply the event is affecting you.
3. Havening Touch – With your consent and if you're comfortable, I’ll gently apply Havening touch to your hands, shoulders, arms, and face.
4. Distraction Activities – While applying the touch, I’ll guide you through fun distraction techniques. These activities help shift the event out of your working memory, preventing your amygdala from being triggered and reducing other distressing thoughts.

What if I don’t like to be touched, or if I am not able to have a face-to-face appointment?
Havening can still be effective even if you’re uncomfortable with touch. You have the option to apply the touch to yourself, or it can be done by someone you trust. For clients working with me via Zoom, I use this method as well. While you’re applying the touch, I will be doing the same, and you’ll experience the benefits through mirror neurons, I’ll guide you step-by-step through the process to ensure you feel supported throughout.

I’ve Tried Many Different Healing Modalities—How Is This Different?
While most therapies work at the conscious level, Havening Techniques® targets the root of the issue by addressing the amygdala, the part of the brain where traumatic events are stored. By understanding how trauma is encoded in the brain, Havening helps create the brain wave state (Delta waves) necessary to release and unlink specific traumas, preventing their reactivation through stress. This approach is both rapid and highly effective, often enabling clients to fully resolve a traumatic experience in as little as one session, with lasting results.
Four
Will I still remember the significant event or trauma?
Yes. Once the trauma has been deactivated in the amygdala, you will still have access to that memory, however, it will have lost all the emotional charge that was attached to it. It will feel more like a distant memory, or a story you once heard. The delta waves generated through havening touch, also create safety and you leave feeling lighter, with a sense of calm and relaxation.
Five
What should I wear to a Havening Session?
I recommend wearing comfortable clothes appropriate for the season. Havening through thick coats is not as effective, and therefore during colder weather, I recommend wearing a lighter long sleeve garment.
Six
Will you share my information with anyone?
No – Ensuring your safety and confidentiality are of utmost importance to me, and is at the core of my practice. If you have any concerns at the time of your appointment, please don’t hesitate to discuss these with me.
Seven
What if I can’t remember my issue, but feel there is something blocking me?
This is very common. As your specialist, it’s my role to help identify the root cause of what you’re experiencing. I begin by working with what feels comfortable for you, creating a safe space to explore the underlying layers of stress. If you"re new to personal development and self-awareness, don’t worry—We can use a combination of havening and coaching to guide and support you through your transformation with excitement and care.
Eight
Can I Combine Havening with Other Therapies?
Havening can be used as a standalone treatment or in combination with other therapies, such as psychotherapy, psychiatry, and alternative approaches. If you"re already seeing a mental health professional, we suggest having a conversation with them about incorporating Havening into your treatment plan before beginning our sessions together.
